Omega-3: The Capsule and the Drug Are Not the Same Thing

Two of the biggest supplement trials ever run came back empty. One prescription trial came back strong. Those facts are about different things.

Fish oil is one of the most-bought supplements in the world and one of the most thoroughly tested, which is a rare and useful combination. The testing is not kind to the capsule. At the doses people actually take, two enormous randomized trials found no reduction in heart disease. A prescription drug, a different molecule at four times the dose, did lower events in one trial, and a second trial at a comparable dose found nothing at all. I want you to be able to hold both of those facts without collapsing them into a slogan.
