The Rapamycin Bet

The most compelling mechanism in longevity science, the most replicated lifespan result in animals, and almost no human proof. Why I take it anyway, as a carefully bounded bet, and where the honest lines are.

This is the honest opposite of my metabolic-drugs piece. There, the drug was proven and only the population was a step ahead. Here, the mechanism is the most interesting in all of aging biology and the animal data is the most replicated we have, but the human longevity proof barely exists. Rapamycin is the molecule that pulled me from thinking about wellness into thinking about longevity, and I have taken it for three years. I still cannot tell you it is extending my life. I take it as a carefully bounded bet on the mechanism and the mouse data, with more human data arriving slowly, and I will show you exactly where the bet is strong and where it is still just a bet. Monitored, reversible, with my physician. I advise, I do not prescribe.
